When I played the first notes of my new song, Crown of Thorns, they reminded me of the theme from Game of Thrones by Ramin Djawadi. That inspiration led me to incorporate cello and other orchestral elements, such as timpani, into the arrangement.
I worked on lyrics for a while, but nothing felt quite right, so I decided instead to use a choir singing “aaahhhs” — actually my own voice layered five times — inspired by Conquest of Paradise by Vangelis.
The result is an instrumental track that feels like it could be the soundtrack to a new film or television series.

Toen ik de eerste noten van mijn nieuwe nummer Crown of Thorns speelde, deden die me denken aan het thema van Game of Thrones van Ramin Djawadi. Die inspiratie bracht me ertoe om cello en andere orkestrale elementen, zoals pauken, in het arrangement te verwerken.
Ik heb een tijd aan de songtekst gewerkt, maar niets voelde echt goed, dus besloot ik in plaats daarvan een koor met “aaahhhs” te gebruiken — eigenlijk mijn eigen stem, vijf keer over elkaar opgenomen — geïnspireerd door Conquest of Paradise van Vangelis.
Het resultaat is een instrumentaal nummer dat zomaar de soundtrack zou kunnen worden van een nieuwe film of televisieserie.
