Sometimes people ask me how I write my songs. The answer to that question was the basis for my new song ‘Oh My Love I Found You’. The love in the title is music. The song is about how I find the inspiration for my songs.

I started writing songs when I was a teenager, 13 or 14 I was at the time. I wrote my songs on the piano in a seperate room at the back of our house where my father, who was a music teacher, gave his lessons during the daytime. In the evening I had this room to myself.

When I am playing I sometimes hear these beautiful melodies that follow what I am playing. I don’t know where they come from, but I try to play them to the best of my ability. After I have a melody I try to capture the feeling I get from it in lyrics. That is how I write my songs.

I am very glad I found these lovely melodies in my head and that I am still hearing them today when I play.

Soms vragen mensen me hoe ik mijn liedjes schrijf. Het antwoord op die vraag vormde de basis voor mijn nieuwe nummer ‘Oh My Love I Found You’. De liefde in de titel staat voor muziek. Het nummer gaat over hoe ik de inspiratie voor mijn liedjes vind.

Ik begon met het schrijven van liedjes toen ik een tiener was, ik was toen 13 of 14. Ik schreef mijn liedjes op de piano in een aparte kamer achter in ons huis, waar mijn vader, die muziekleraar was, overdag lesgaf. ‘s Avonds had ik die kamer voor mezelf.

Als ik speel, hoor ik soms prachtige melodieën die mijn spel volgen. Ik weet niet waar ze vandaan komen, maar ik probeer ze zo goed mogelijk na te spelen. Als ik eenmaal een melodie heb, probeer ik het gevoel dat ik erbij krijg in een tekst te vangen. Zo schrijf ik mijn liedjes.

Ik ben heel blij dat ik die mooie melodieën in mijn hoofd heb gevonden en dat ik ze vandaag de dag nog steeds hoor als ik speel.
